My research interests in cognitive neuroscience are focused on language processing, reading & writing, as well as learning & memory. I have spent the last 25 years in cognitive neuroscience research using PET, FMRI, TMS, EEG, and eye-tracking . After finishing my medical studies (MD) at Karolinska Institutet, 1990 - 1996, I worked on explicit learning & declarative memory in the human brain as a member of the Cognitive Neurophysiology Research Group at the Karolinska Institutet, where I completed my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience/Clinical Neurophysiology. I still retain my fundamental interest in mathematics and physics, which I studied at the University of Stockholm, 1984 - 1990. In collaboration with the Department of Numerical Analysis and Computing at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, I took part in the investigation of computational models of learning & memory at different time-scales. I am a founding member of the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group at the University of Algarve, where we investigate dyslexia and the implications of learning to read & write on the human brain. In addition, I am a Senior Scientist in the Neurobiology of Language Department at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics as well as a Research Fellow at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, where I participate in fundamental research on natural and artificial language processing, and more recently neurobiologically realistic modelling of language processing.
