Curso Livre de Missão Vida: Fatores Humanos e Gestão de Recursos para Equipas de Alto Desempenho na Saúde
Objectives
- Understand the fundamental principles of human factors and their direct impact on patient safety;
- Recognize human limitations, including fatigue, overload, and performance variability, and apply mitigation strategies;
- Apply teamwork skills, including leadership, followership, clear communication, assertiveness, and authority gradient management;
- Promote psychological safety and civil behavior in the workplace;
- Improve situational awareness and decision-making by integrating systems 1 and 2 thinking;
- Use structured communication tools (SBAR, bullet-point thinking, appropriate escalation);
- Conduct effective briefings, debriefings, and handovers, optimizing reliability and continuity of care;
- Use checklists professionally, understanding their limits and value;
- Incorporate human factors practices into clinical routine, making healthcare safer
Operating Mode
The course includes one virtual class (2 hours) and one in-person session, lasting 8 hours, on 12 May, from 09:00 to 18:00.
Depending on the number of registrations, an additional session may be held on 14/05/2026. The allocation of trainees to alternative dates will be coordinated with the course management.

This course is part of the project Medicine, Technology, and the Future - MedTech NEXT | Digital More Impulse, under the Medicine Reform and Modernization Sub-measure.
The course offers up to 32 scholarships for healthcare professionals residing in national territory (subject to funding availability).
The scholarships awarded under the project Medicine, Technology and the Future – MedTech NEXT | More Digital Impulse, Sub-measure Reform and Modernisation of Medicine, comply with the Regulations for Incentive Scholarships under the UAlg+Skills4All and FOSTEAM@SOUTH Projects of the University of Algarve – Adult Impulse. According to paragraph b) of Article 3, the Adult Impulse Incentive Scholarship constitutes annual financial support to partially cover the costs of tuition fees for non-degree courses, aimed at the upskilling or professional reskilling of adults who have reached the age of 23 by 31 December of the year preceding the application.

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.
